Dr. Colleen Geertsema grew up in Carlsbad as the daughter of veterinarians, so she seemed destined to do the same. She earned her BS in Neurobiology and Behavior from UC Davis in 2008 before graduating cum laude from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016. After graduation, Dr. Geertsema became certified in veterinary acupuncture and especially enjoys this addition to daily practice.

Dr. Geertsema’s professional interests include maintaining life-long relationships with her patients and caring for senior pets. When not at the animal hospital, she is kept busy exploring San Diego with her three active kids. Dr. Geertsema and her husband also share their home with a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Josie; Poodle-Mix, Doogie; a crazy kitty, Charlie; a Quarter horse, Xander; a miniature donkey, Georgia; and a flock of chickens.
